Evidence and Property Claim Procedure

To claim seized property held as “evidence” in a criminal investigation, a signed Court Order or authorization from the case deputy/investigator is required. Defendants are advised to involve their attorney in this process.

For property collected as “found property,” owner’s authorization is not necessary if the collecting deputy has provided the owner’s information and the owner can prove ownership.

Proof of ownership may be requested during the claim process.

To expedite inquiries and releases, it is recommended to provide your report number and/or the case deputy’s name when contacting us.

Please note that appointments are mandatory. To schedule an appointment, call (270) 597-2157 and inquire about release availability and select a convenient time for evidence pick up.

At the time of release, a valid government-issued identification such as a driver’s license or state ID card is required.

For individuals claiming a firearm, a background check will be conducted to ensure eligibility according to United States Code Title 18 restrictions.

Any property held or over 90 days after notification of availability will be considered unclaimed/abandoned and may be disposed of or forfeited.
